The Summer Learning Series is a four-day learning experience open to the public at no cost. It is designed to impart information and skills through the use of activities such as creating, sharing, chatting, & viewing content on social media. The series will be in-person and on-line. Youth will explore their family history, culture, & traditions. Activities such as a family tree diagram & interviews will be used for self-discovery.
Youth will be introduced to the psychological process used in media to market, promote, & influence behavior. Subconscious and conscious mind, propaganda, & subliminal messages will be discussed.
How to analyze facts, evidence, arguments, and observations in messages will be explored. Messages from film, social media, and music will be used to practice critical thinking.
Meta-literacy will be used to teach youth to use critical thinking skills on social media. Youth will learn to reflect on their personal thoughts, feelings, and behavior, when creating and sharing on social media.
